3 Easy Tips For Maintaining Cotton Sheets

So you have decided to treat yourself by going to our online store and ordering the most magnificent, beautiful, and soft sheets you could find. But now, you’re worried.

Even if all Amalia Home Collection boasts the finest materials and most exquisite craftsmanship in the market, improper care can still lead the best products to deteriorate over time.

Naturally, you want to keep your investment safe and enjoy them for a very long time. That’s why we are here for you with 3 easy tips for maintaining cotton sheets that we have learned over decades in the business.

How to Care for 100% Cotton Sheets

1. Wash your sheets separately

This is not just because we think sheets are precious and deserve their load (although we do believe that). Sheets are longer and heavier than any of your clothes. That means they have a lot more surface area to create friction.

If sheets are in the washing machine with your clothes, every button, zipper, sequin, and hem will be rubbing against your sheets during the wash. This is not ideal. Not only that, but towels and clothing require more water to wash, which will lead to longer drying times. You don’t want that either.

If we don’t recommend washing your sheets with other clothes items, then that certainly extends to drying them as well, not even with just towels. Those items produce lint, which you are better off not having on your sheets either.

2. Keep them away from the heat

The dryer should be a last resort, even if the sheets are alone. But we also mean all forms of heat. Cotton is a natural fiber, and Amalia Home Collection has been awarded the 100% Egyptian Cotton Gold Seal, meaning we only the finest cotton available.

Heat distresses cotton and puts a burden on the fibers. When washing cotton sheets, use a low water temperature. If you must tumble dry (we recommend line drying), use a low temperature. If you are ironing them to keep that pristine hotel look, also use a low temperature.

Lastly, when you’re storing them, keep them in a cool, dry area. No plastic containers! It may not seem like this makes much of a difference at first, but you will be sure to notice it as time goes by.

3. Go very easy on the detergent

Detergents generate build-up if you wash your sheets regularly (every week or every two weeks at the most); the detergent may start building up on your linens, creating a layer that will not feel as good against your skin.

Therefore consider using a little less detergent than is recommended. The doses prescribed by detergent brands are meant to ensure a clean wash regardless of how dirty the sheets are. If you are doing it with enough regularity, you should not need it.

If you feel this is happening to you after some time, here’s how to fix it: wash your sheets with no detergent at all, just one cup of baking soda to start the wash, and one cup of white vinegar during the rinse cycle. This will remove any unwanted detergent build-up.
