Meet the Amalia Home Collection
Four generations of expertise continuously producing high quality bed linens.
The Amalia Home Collection has been developing and producing luxurious and artistic home textiles, made in Portugal, and inspired by the Portuguese culture and its beautiful landscapes.
Giza cotton is the very finest variety of Egyptian Cotton™. It comes with two distinctive characteristics: its fibers are extra fine and extra-long. Uniquely grown in Egypt, it is carefully hand-harvested to avoid any chemical contaminates.
Amalia Home Collection also uses the finest quality Giza cotton, Giza 45, the queen of Egyptian Cotton™. In 1820, Mohammed Ali Pascia, the founder of modern Egypt, imported Sea Island cotton seeds from the Caribbean, after experiencing the fabulous cotton they produced. The combination of the exceptional seeds and the perfect geographic environment meant that his new cotton could flourish and set a new standard for the world.
The Giza 45 plants are today grown in a small area to the East of the Nile delta. They are the finest of all the Egyptian Cotton™ varieties, representing a very small (0.4%) fraction of the annual Egyptian Cotton™ harvest. All labor is still done by hand, as the precise moment of picking needs to be expertly scrutinized to maximize the size and quality of the harvest. While the fibers of the Giza 45 plant are incredibly fine, they are also long and strong. This makes the cotton durable and extraordinarily soft and silky to the touch.
Make every night feel like the summer holidays
Imagine the sound of the waves against the rocks, the tide coming and going, the softness of the sand, the warmth of the sun on your skin. Our collections are designed to make you feel all those good sensations every night in your home. We believe that bed linens should be comfortable like the summer holidays, a true piece of art.
A piece of Portugal in your home
Since 1922, the Amalia Home Collection has been developing and producing luxurious and artistic home textiles, made in Portugal, and inspired by the Portuguese culture and its beautiful landscapes. From the coastline to the countryside, the cobblestone streets to the rolling hills, the rooms of a beautiful palace, and the Atlantic ocean’s deep blue, each design brings a little piece of Portugal to your home.
Who was Amalia?
The name Amalia was inspired by Maria Amália, the beloved great-grandmother of António Coelho Lima, one of the creators of the Amalia Home Collection. The name Amalia is also deeply connected to the Portuguese soul because it belongs to one of the most iconic and beloved Portuguese celebrities, Amália Rodrigues, who has touched the heart of the whole world through the famous Portuguese music form: Fado. Our collections embody all that soul, love and beauty.
The Pride of Guimarães
Amalia Home Collection is a fourth-generation family business and it’s a culmination of 100 years of experience and heritage in the textile industry. Its roots can be traced back several generations to 1922 when some of the original mills of northern Portugal began to manufacture products that personified the European quality and craftsmanship. Today, many of the same methods and techniques used for decades are combined with modern innovation, resulting in a luxurious high-end product.
From Portugal, with love.
Worldwide, “Made in Portugal” is a symbol of quality & reliability. The purchase of one of our products not only implies quality, but it also means it was made in an environment that is socially and ecologically responsible.
